PETRA JAYA – Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDS Baru) had demands that the State Barisan Nasional Government to act more pro-actively on land issues within the state. Clearly, what should be done by Sarawak BN Cabinet is to issue statistical data on land ownership in Sarawak.
“If the state government lead by Abang Jo is serious and sincere in resolving the issue of NCR Land, they have to release the actual statistical data on land status in the state”, said Cobbold, who is also PBDS Baru President, while attending the case of Dayak Native Customary Right’s Land (NCR) case of Kampung Melugu Dau earlier afternoon.
According to him, the public is well aware that majority NCR land in Sarawak is state property and is being divided into two (2) categories of “registered stateland” and “unregistered stateland”. Native Customary Right (NCR) Land is under ‘unregistered stateland’.
“This ‘unregistered stateland’ shall counter major issues, when the government approves a P.L. (Provisional Lease) to a particular company or individual under Section 28 of the State Land Code”, explained Cobbold.
According to him, the Sarawak Barisan Nasional Government should be much obliged to issue out a recorded statistical data for general knowledge. He requested that Abang Jo and the state Cabinet tell Sarawakians how much land that has been gazetted as a “registered stateland”, a land categorized as “unregistered stateland”, and also approved provisional lease (PL) that has been granted, as well as the land which has been granted individual grants under Section 18 and also the company holding the lease.
“In addition, PBDS Baru also wants to know the status of the land ownership that has been surveyed under Section 6”, said Cobbold.
He said there was no reason for Barisan Nasional would fail to issue such statistics unless there was something to hide. He said State Land and Survey Department should have the updated data.
“Yes, it does not matter if it’s a problem,” he said, adding that the people of Sarawak, especially Bumiputeras, such as Dayaks, Melanau and Malays are entitled to know this matter, “Cobbold said.
He also called for the Sarawak BN government to reveal the original documents pertaining to the formation of Malaysia acquired in London should be brought forth to public knowledge. According to him, there might be significant elements which are related to NCR land contained in the document.
“We can see whether if there’s any transparency by Sarawak BN government. Please do not say or come up with an excuse that it falls under the Official Secrets Act (OSA),” said Cobbold.
According to Cobbold, this is the fourth time that his party has issued a media statement with regards to the matter. However, there is still no response yet from the State Government of Sarawak til this very day.
“Yes, this is the fourth time, but they (BN Sarawak) are silent, the Federal Government has changed, what else do they want to hide?”, asked Cobbold.
He also added that land ownership issues had became thorns in Sarawak’s meat, especially Dayaks who inherited the hereditary land.
“I think this matter (status of land ownership) should be put on displayed for public’s knowledge as we also want to know who are these PL owners as well,” he added again.
