Kuching – Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDSB) was quite surprised with the statement and commitment made by Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Openg about amending Sarawak Syariah laws on apostasy.
“If it is genuinely sincere that Sarawak CM has made such commitment which promises the amendment to be made, we at PBDSB would fully support his commitment to do so”, the party said.
“PBDSB would like to remind Sarawak Chief Minister that by making such promise to Roman Catholic Archbishop of Kuching Reverend Simon Peter Poh, is like a promise to GOD. For it is in Christianity belief, that every priesthood are anointed by GOD through calling”, the party asserted.
“The question is, why six (6) months? Why is the duration of the period requires six (6) months to fulfil and resolved?”, the party said.
PBDSB opined Sarawak Chief Minister to do his best to settle the matter within the shortest period possible due to the recent death threats had been made to Archbishop Simon Poh as well as Baru Bian due to this apostasy issue. We are worried about such promises and do not encourage it to drag further, as how the issue of NCR was prolonged from the date which was supposedly promised.
The importance of secular democratic nation need to be adhered, especially when Sarawak is a nation with religious freedom spelled out in MA63. Those from Malaya need to fully understand the secular sentiments of administration from Sarawak. Which is why the utmost importance that Malaysia must always remain secular in administration. Sarawak is a multiracial ethnic secular democratic state and not an Islamic State.
PBDSB duly hope that the apostasy amendment promise which was made, shall not end up like the NCR promise which was made previously, now all NCR owners has lost their land cases due to the prolonged solution which was promised.
“PBDSB hope that this time, with the witness by GOD, the promises made shall be fulfilled in the end”, the party said.
