Kuching – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s speech during 14th PBB Convention was described as a “political redemption” by Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) Youth Chief, Rapelson Richard Hamit.
In his speech, Najib had promised to return the rights of Sarawak under Malaysia Agreement MA 1963. He explained that any Sarawak’s right to take, whether intentionally or unintentionally, was undoubtedly returned to the future of the state and its people.
The Prime Minister was quoted as saying the similar promise while officiated SUPP TDC few months ago. However, he insisted on two conditions, that is, no succession term from Federation of Malaysia and also demanded that the people of Sarawak fully support the Barisan Nasional (BN) government. The party president, Cobbold had condemned Najib’s statement as a political threat.
“There is no requirement or any provision in the Malaysian legislation to state that support for the Barisan Nasional will restore Sarawak’s rights in the deprovisioned Malaysia MA63 Agreement. This is a “political hostage” and an act that does not respect the position of Sabah and Sarawak as partners in the formation of Malaysia, “Rapelson said.
Rapelson asserted that Sabah and Sarawak’s rights were enshrined in the Malaysian Agreement and he questioned Najib’s credibility as Prime Minister.
“The parties involved in the formation of Malaysia are United Kingdom, Federation of Malaya (Malaya), North Borneo (Sabah), Sarawak and Singapore”, he explained.
“Najib is not one of the parties involved, there is no Najib or Barisan Nasional in MA63. He just a Prime Minister entrusted with the task of administering Malaysia and appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong “, Rapelson said in a sarcasm.
He added, the rights shall be returned before the GE14, otherwise it is just an empty political promise. Besides, the additional Deputy Chief Minister positions for Sabah and Sarawak should be taken into consideration of Federal Government.
“Yes. I repeat it again loudly, DPM1 for Sarawak and DPM 2 Sabah. Both DPMs function are to look after these two Broneo states”, he said.
However, he upset with the multiple committees set up by State Government recently. According to him, MA63 shall not be the subject for discussion as it is stipulated in the agreement.
“Only stupid government will discuss on the written law. But, Abang Jo and his team not stupid i think?” He chided.
“What is interesting is the territorial rights of the people and Sarawakians want to know how Malaysia returns our rights. Do not let the BN government say that PETRONAS is wrong, “Rapelson said.
He also called for Pakatan Harapan to act more proactive if it won Putrajaya on GE14. He said PH’s pardigram shift was necessary and not as before.
